Step 1 of 9

Essential Caregiver Training

Please watch the following videos and attest to each one by checking the box beside each video.

Essential Caregivers play a crucial role, not just in helping with daily activities, but also in providing emotional and psychological support that can make a huge difference in a resident's well-being.

They often become the primary support system, ensuring the patient feels heard, cared for, and safe.  Essential Caregivers can be designated by the resident or POA.

We want to make sure that while you visit your loved one, we are keeping you and those around you safe.

By taking part in this training and following infection prevention and control measures, we can help minimize the risk of spreading infections and protect our residents, staff, and essential caregivers.

  • Essential Caregivers should be educated on the potential risk of exposure when visiting a symptomatic resident
  • Essential Caregivers should receive training on how to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately and Universal Masking
  • Essential Caregivers should receive training on performing proper Hand Hygiene

Changes to visiting when an outbreak is declared

  • When an outbreak is declared, general visitors should postpone all non-essential visits to resident within the outbreak area for the duration of the outbreak
  • Essential Caregivers are only allowed to visit at this time, and should be directed to the reception desk prior to visiting
    • Exemptions exist on compassionate grounds to support visitation by essential caregivers/visitors of residents who are at end of life

Essential Caregiver consent

All essential care givers must be first approved by the resident or POA to become the ECG.
